Fencing is an amazing sport. Trains your physical fitness just as much as it trains your thinking and mental capabilities.
Its creativity and speed keeps you on your toes constantly. Building up successful tactics and strategies like playing chess at the same time while getting your daily physical exercise. Overcoming with both of the challenges such as the physical and mental ones, gives you a huge amount of motivation to do better and faster next time.
Growing up in a competitive fencing club and family in Hungary always pushed me forward to improve my skills as a fencer and later on as a coach and I can say I was keen to learn from international level coaches and fencers. The experience I gained during those years are priceless. I have learnt not just how discipline myself as an athlete, how think as a competitor, but how to handle stress, loss, competitions, time and even win.... and one more thing I have learnt: hard work always pays off. These were the main principles to focus on too when I started as an assistant coach at the age of 17.
By the time I turned into full-time coaching I have trained fencers on several levels and had more than 10 years coaching experience behind me with a solid knowledge of training.
Although, I still think those principles are the base of any good start of coaching, but clearly athletes need more to achieve. As additional aid, I use the help of the basics of performance training and basic sport analytics to help my fencers achieve their dreams.
